Book of Kells Desk Calendar 2026
Regular price €9.99
The book of Kells dates from c.800 A.D. and contains the four Gospels in Latin.
Now measuring 33 x 25.5 cm having been trimmed and rebound in the 19th century. It is written on vellum and the Gospel texts are prefaced with Canon Tables and characterisations of the Evangelists.
What makes the Book of Kells unique are the lavish illustrations intertwined with the text with the intention of glorifying God's creations. There are many full pages containing decorations and symbols such as for the Cannon Tables.
The book was illustrated by what appears to have been four artists whose work has been likened to that of goldsmiths. A number of pigments were used including arsenic sulphate for yellow, red lead or an unidentified organic matter for red and blue was created from indigo or woad.
The Book of Kells was probably used for special ceremonial occasions rather than for daily services. This conclusion has been reached as the transcription of the text was sumptuous but also rather careless with some entire words having been omitted. In other sections texts have been repeated and subsequently painted over to hide the error.
Now bound into four volumes two of which are usually on view in the Old Library at Trinity College Dublin (one showing a decorated page and the other text), the Book of Kells attracts in excess of 800,000 visitors a year.

DUBLIN - A Pictorial Guide
Regular price €7.99
Dublin, like most great cities, did not grow overnight. Founded by the Vikings over a thousand years ago, it has evolved through the Middle Ages and Georgian Era to become one of the friendliest and most fashionable capitals in Europe. This illustrated guide tells the story of Dublin and introduces some of its more important sights to the visitor - from medieval cathedrals and eighteenth century architectural masterpieces to museums, public houses and parks. Featuring the photographs of Liam Blake, one of the city’s most renowned photographers, it is equally an aid to exploring Dublin and a tribute to its culture and history.
Despite its fame around the world, Dublin is a remarkably small and intimate city. This is an important aspect of its charm, for within the compact central districts are museums, art galleries, medieval cathedrals and churches, Georgian terraces and great public buildings – all part of a history that goes back over a thousand years. Yet Dublin is equally renowned for its lively pubs, theatres, music venues and literary heritage. All of these contribute to the contemporary city’s uniquely vibrant atmosphere and great social and cultural scene.
DUBLIN - EIN ILLUSTRIERTER REISEFÜHRER
Regular price €7.99

1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic
The Proclamation of the Irish Republic is amongst the single most influential documents in Irish History. Mainly composed by Pádraig Pearse and James Connolly, a thousand copies were run off on a Summit Wharfdale Stop Cylinder Press at Liberty Hall during the night before the Rising began. The sheets were printed in two halves because the printers did not have enough letters to typeset the whole text. The copies of the Proclamation were barely completed by morning and some bore only the first half of the text. The ink on many was still damp when they were posted on telegraph poles and walls around the city centre.
The Proclamation, which set out the aims and motives of the rebellion, was loosely modelled on Robert Emmet’s Proclamation of Independence for the 1803 Rising. One of its more radical pledges extended the vote to women (in 1916 the only countries with female suffrage were Australia, New Zealand, Finland and Norway). The Proclamation also promised to “cherish all the children of the nation equally” – a reference to the large Protestant minority in Northern Ireland and the rest of the country.
