Irish Writer and Playwright
George Bernard Shaw was born on July 25th, 1856 into, what he later described as “shabby-genteel poverty”.
Until recently he was the only person to have received both an Academy Award and the Nobel Prize. Shaw died in 1950 aged ninety-four at his home in Hertfordshire. The National Gallery of Ireland was a major beneficiary from his estate after his death.
